First-day leader

Kaylan Summers (shown at state last year) shot a personal best of 78 to lead the District 18-4A golf tournamenet at Killeen’s Stonetree Golf Course on Thursday. The Hornet senior leads the tournament as do the Hornets team. The team shot a 369 for a huge lead over Lorena at
433. Other Hornets scores were Atira Couch with a 90, McKenna McLaughlin 100, Tatum Basham 101 and Hailey Luensmann 128. The final round is April 4.

Erin Necessary chases down a China Spring baserunner in a rundown in Tuesday’s District 18-4A game. The Hornets worked the play well to record an out early in the game. The Hornets fell to 1-2 in district play with the loss. They played Connally on Friday and will face Robinson Tuesday.

Jordan Morse gets excellent bend in her pole vaulting pole during Thursday’s meet at Lorena. Morse used fi ve different poles during her competition at Lorena. The junior has improved from 10 feet, six-inches to 12 feet, one-inch over her high school career.
