GHS soccer girls fall short, boys add two more victories

The Gatesville High School girls’ soccer played Brownwood on Tuesday, but came up short, 0-3, against Brownwood.  The girls are led by four-year starters, seniors Bethany Penrod, Raisa Leon, and Cayleigh Coursey.

Gatesville High School boys’ soccer played China Spring on Friday. GHS got an early goal from Oswaldo Leon. The game was tied, 1-1, until the final six minutes when Gatesville got a goal from Hector Silva. They also added goals from Asa Hardcastle and Silva (assist from Angel Alemndariz) in the final minutes to win, 4-1.  On Tuesday, GHS played Brownwood. The boys fell behind, 0-2, at halftime, but fought their way back with goals from Oswaldo Leon and Almendariz (assist from Alex Bueno) to even the score. With only 14 seconds left, Asa Hardcastle sent a ball into the box that found the head of Oswaldo Leon, and the back of the net, giving the Hornets a dramatic last second victory, 3-2.
