Ray Clawson, age 94, of Gatesville, formerly of the Owl Creek community, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022, in Gatesville.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Blake Kimbrough officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be at Flint Creek Cemetery.

Ray Clawson was born on December 25, 1927, in the Pleasant Ridge community near Flat in Coryell County, to the late James Franklin and Julia Josephine Doolittle Clawson. He graduated from Flat High School in 1945. In May 1945, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps and served until his discharge in 1946. He married Joy Wall on Thanksgiving Day 1947. He worked for Fletcher Enterprises, Blackland Grain and Storage, and owned and operated Clawson Incorporated. He served as a director of Texas Bank in Temple. He also farmed and ranched in the Owl Creek community. He and his brothers owned and operated Triple C Realty. He was a member of the Bell County Sheriff’s Posse. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Flat.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Joy Clawson; and two brothers, two sisters, five half-brothers and two half-sisters.

Clawson is survived by his sons, Jamie Clawson and wife, Kim, John Clawson and wife, Natalie; brother, Judge J. F. Clawson; sister, Nova Festervan; five grandchildren, Charis Clawson and husband, Matthew Meador, David Clawson and wife, Savannah, Joy Anne Clawson and husband, Brett Johnson, Sarah Clawson and Lena Clawson.
