Marie Pruitt, age 96, went to be with the Lord and her loved ones on Sunday, April 21, 2024, in Gatesville.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, at Scott’s Funeral Home, with Pastor Matt Dossey officiating. Interment followed at Weaver Chapel Cemetery.

Eva Marie Pruitt was born on May 23, 1927, in Gatesville to the late Jim and Callie Mae Ferguson Lofland. She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1944. After graduation, she went to work for the State School for Boys and worked under seven superintendents until it closed in the early 1970’s. While working for the state, her best friend, Emily Young, set her up on a blind date. That person, Wayne Pruitt, soon became the love of her life, and they married on Oct. 23, 1947. After their marriage, they moved to the Pancake community on the farm that Wayne was raised on. Together, they raised their two sons there, Kyle and Kenneth, on “Rat Road.”

Her husband preceded her in death in 2012, and she moved to Gatesville, to be close to her family and join her friends in the apartments they called “Amentsville” for five years. In 2019, she moved to The Welcome Room at The Oaks, where she was “spoiled and pampered,” as she well deserved. She was a member of the Jonesboro Methodist Church for many years until transferring to the First Methodist Church in Gatesville.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Kyle Pruitt, and sisters, Delma Stanford and Betty Moore.

She was a beloved mother and grandma and is survived by her son, Kenneth Pruitt and wife, Sandy; daughter-in-law, Joyce Pruitt; grandchildren, Stacy Pruitt and boyfriend, Ben, Lisa Bankhead and husband, Keith, Karen Fuchs and husband, Scott, Tracy Greenwell and husband, Brian, Kevin Pruitt and wife, Rachel; great-grandchildren, Dylan Pruitt, Bradyn Culley, Ashtyn Culley, Karson Bankhead, Kasen Bankhead, Mason Fuchs, Mallory Fuchs, Christopher Greenwell, Kaitlyn Greenwell, Emma Pruitt, Sophie Pruitt; and a great-great grandson, Burlan.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be designated to Weaver Chapel Cemetery Association, 3470 CR 108, Gatesville, TX 76528 or First Methodist Church, 2600 E. Main St., Gatesville, TX 76528.
