Bill Nelson, age 80, of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022, in McGregor.
Graveside services with full military honors were held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2022, at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Funeral services followed the graveside service at 12 noon, Monday at Trinity Baptist Church, with Rev. Sam Crosby officiating.
Billy Wayne Nelson was born on October 31, 1941, in LaFayette, Georgia to the late Daniel and Goma Chastain Nelson. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois and entered the United States Army at a young age. During his military career, he was stationed in Belgium and Korea, and retired in 1988. He married Bonnie King on November 8, 1975. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jason Nelson.
Bill is survived by his wife, Bonnie Nelson; children, Mitchell, Eric, Lola, Sheila, Rodney, Brandon, and Lynetta; grandchildren, Margaret, Tyler, Sarah, Amos, Camilla, Joseph, Luciana, Mauricio, Jairo, Ashley; and numerous great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be designated to Trinity Baptist Church, 1506 W. Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.
