Unsecure couch causes multiple car crashes on I-14

Posted

An unsecure couch that fell onto Interstate 14 led to six car crashes on Wednesday.

Deputies with the Coryell County Sheriff's Office and Texas DPS troopers responded to the incident that occurred between Clarke Road and Copperas Cove city limits. The sheriff’s office said the couch fell and landed in the lane of travel before it was struck by multiple vehicles.

At the time of the crashes, the sheriff’s office said the area was “very congested” and asked drivers to slow down and yield to emergency vehicles.

The sheriff’s office issued a statement at 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday saying I-14 was clear.

The sheriff’s office reminds drivers that they are required by chapter 725 of the Texas Transportation Code to secure cargo in a way that will prevent the load from escaping. Failure to secure cargo is punishable by a fine of no less than $25 or more than $500.
