The Pleasure and Profit Club record from 1931

Posted

Let’s check in with the ladies of The Pleasure and Profit Club from their earliest December record ever recorded - Dec. 10, 1931. “The club met with Mrs. Alice Oney Oney. We embroidered several different pieces of embroidery. The house was called to order by the president. After the reading of the minutes and the roll call (noting the absence of two or three), the club decided not to meet anymore until after Christmas. We were then invited to the dining room where we were served delicious pecan pie, cake, and cocoa. We then adjourned to meet with Selma Lacy on Jan. 7, 1932.” It was then noted that Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. Finally, the members for 1932 were listed as Eula Mae Cox, Ora Mae Oney, Coma Jones, Bessie Smith, Brit Edmondson, Myra Myrle Shook, Mae Franks, Ida Shook, Nannie Grace McGuire, Lottie Oney, Mildred Manning, Elouise Nabors, Ona Jones, Henrie Elam, Nollie Robinson, and Odell Reynolds. How many names do you recognize all these decades later? Wouldn’t they be pleased to know that their legacy carries on to this very day in the ladies (and gentlemen) of Pearl who work so diligently at the various churches, the cemetery, and the Pearl Community Center? Copies of this book are for sale at the Pearl Cottage Bookstore for $15.00—such a treasure!

Speaking of the Pearl Cottage Bookstore, it will be open again on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., along with the Pearl Bluegrass event. That’s right - 2024! Everyone is welcome to attend.

There are several people in the Pearl area in need of prayer due to illness right now. Please just pray for the health of our Pearl people. The Lord knows who they are, and there’s power in prayer!

Around this time of year, you’ll see Manger scenes pop up in various locations around the Pearl and surrounding areas. Let’s see how many we can display in Pearl. What a great reminder that Jesus IS the reason for the season!

This week’s Bible verse comes from Luke 19:10—For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” NIV

Please pray for continued blessings of rain, for our veterans and service men and women, our country, our schools, and Israel.
