Gatesville police are investigating an incident that could be a possible assault of an older woman who was found inside her home in “apparent medical distress,” according to a media release issued by the Gatesville Police Department.

Police responded to the incident on Sunday around 6:10 p.m. at a residence on the 200 block of Mulberry Street after receiving a call from the woman’s friend who had stopped by the woman’s house to check on her. The friend told police that they found the woman in an “incoherent state.”

The release states that the woman was unable to explain the circumstances that led to her medical issue, but the nature of the issue suggests the possibility that a crime had occurred.

As of Monday, Gatesville police say they still do not know what led to the medical issue, but they are treating the incident as a crime scene.

Coryell Hospital EMS transported the woman to a regional hospital where she is undergoing tests that could help determine if a crime had occurred, per the release.
