he Oglesby Lady Tigers volleyball team are area champions after defeating the Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy on Nov. 2.

After dropping the first set, 22-25, the Lady Tigers rallied to win the next three sets, 25-8, 25-19, and 25-18.

Matti Dixon led the Oglesby Lady Tigers offensively with 17 kills, and tied junior libero Jayda Gonzalez with 12 defensive digs. On the serving side, Jayda snagged eight aces against PTAA-Greenville. Setter Andrea Licea-Perez had 24 assists, and freshman Caitlyn Battreal had eight kills. Addison Hamilton had six kills, Zarah Wisehart found three acres and had a kill.

According to Coach Martin, “It was a great win and the first volleyball playoff win in the history of the program.” This is the farthest the Lady Tigers have gone.

The Lady Tigers then took on the Avalon Lady Eagles in Valley Mills Nov. 7 in the regional quarterfinal playoffs and played a hard-fought game. The Lady Tigers made some great plays, and rallied back several times, however, in the end the Tigers couldn’t match up to the 6-foot, 6-inch freshman phenom from Avalon.

Senior Mattie Dixon and senior Addison Hamilton led the way for the Tigers. With only two seniors on the team, the future looks bright for the Lady Tigers. The Tigers are coached by Head Coach Amanda Martin and Kara Helms.
