National Day of Prayer will be held at First Methodist Church of Gatesville on May 4.
First Methodist Church of Gatesville, 2600 E. Main St., will host the National Day of Prayer from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 4 in the church sanctuary.
The focus will be on prayer in general, as well as seven specific areas: The church, family and marriages, education, business, government, media, and arts and entertainment.
The theme for the 2023 events is Pray Fervently in Righteousness, with the accompanying words from James 5:16 "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation".
The modern law formalizing its annual observance was enacted in 1952.
