Lady Eagles softball determined to make playoffs

Posted

The Jonesboro Lady Eagles softball team has powered through their season standing at 11-7 overall, as well as being 5-1 in district play.

“The Jonesboro Lady Eagles are an extremely young and talented team, with only one senior on the roster this year and potentially having eight returners next year,” coach Amanda LeCroy said. “The future is bright with this group.”

The team’s overall batting average is .504, an OBP of .606, eight home runs, and 144 RBI.

LeCroy expressed that the season started off a little bumpy in Round Rock at the 4A/5A tournament, but the girls still competed very well and continue to do so.

“It has started to come together, as we are 9-1 in our last 10 games,” LeCroy said. “These young ladies have stepped up and have played very well together.”

It’s tough for other teams to pitch to the Lady Eagles when the whole lineup can potentially deliver at any swing.

“We don't have an easy out in our lineup,” LeCroy said. “Our ability to produce runs and move runners is what gets us ahead in most games.”

Defensively, the team has come together as well over the last few weeks.

LeCroy admitted that being able to make routine plays is huge, and that they are big on keeping things simple in practice. During practice, the girls focus on reps and work on little things to not over-complicate anything.

“We want our kids to be able to go out and execute and play with a clear mind,” LeCroy said.

“We're looking to make a deep run this year for the playoffs, but we know we have to take it one game at a time, one inning at a time, and one pitch at a time,” LeCroy said. “There is still a lot left of the season, and there are things we are still working on to make sure we compete on all aspects of the game.”

The Lady Eagles will compete in their next game at home versus Covington Independent School District’s softball team on Tuesday, April 16.
