The Gatesville High School Hornets had two key basketball players go out with injuries in the first game of the Little River Academy Tournament Thursday. Six-foot-four Tyler Shea and shooting guard Jack Carroll were slowed in the opener, and the team dropped all four games in the tournament.
Waco Connally ran to convincing 81-20 win on Thursday in the opener.
The Hornets were outscored 24-10 in the opening quarter.
Connally led 43-10 at halftime.
Leaders for the Hornets were: Shea with eight points and nine rebounds and Trae Miller with six rebounds.
Salado 77, Gatesville 62: Carter Williams scored 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the Game 2 battle.
Salado outscored the Hornets 26-6 in the first quarter.
Salado led 41-23 at halftime and 54-44 going into the fourth quarter.
Rayshon Smith scored 15 points and added five rebounds. Carroll scored 15 points.
Grandview 41, Gatesville 39: Grandview scored at the buzzer to knock off the Hornets.
Grandview outscored the Hornets, 14-1, in the fourth quarter.
Williams scored 16 points and led on the boards. Smith scored nine points.
China Spring 51, Gatesville 39: Carroll had 14 points and four rebounds in Game 4 of the tournament for the Hornets. Williams scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
China Spring led 24-23 at halftime and by three entering the fourth, at 35-32.
