Hornet girls' softball competes in first district game of season

On Tuesday, March 19, the Gatesville Lady Hornet softball team competed in their first district game versus La Vega Independent School District where they won 12-1.

Raylee Glover drove in four runs on two hits to lead the varsity Hornets past La Vega varsity.

Glover hit a home run to center field in the fifth inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the second inning, scoring one.

The Lady Hornets opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles.

The Lady Hornets first got on the board when Madison Hester singled, scoring one run, while another run was added in the second after Glover doubled.

A line out by Kinlee Gardner extended the varsity Hornets lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning.

Four more Lady Hornet runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 12-1. An error scored one run, and Glover homered to center field, scoring three runs.

Megan Mehaffey earned the win for the Lady Hornets. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and one run over four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking two. Number 17 started in the circle for La Vega. They gave up three hits and six runs, with five earned, over two-thirds of an inning, striking out none and walking one.

Kallie Featherston appeared in relief for the Lady Hornets.

Brilee Ford, Glover, and Gardner each collected two hits for the Lady Hornets.

Leadoff hitter number 16 for La Vega, led the team with two hits in three at bat. La Vega turned one double play in the game.

The Lady Hornets travelled to their next game on Friday, March 22.
