Greta Poston Boales, age 92, of Gatesville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at Live Oak Baptist Church in Gatesville with Pastor David Crosby officiating.

Greta was born on July 7, 1931, to the late Mike and Naomi Brim Poston in Turnersville. She attended school in Turnersville and Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1948. After graduating, she moved to Dallas and attended business college. In 1949 she married George Dysinger, and due to his Air Force career, they established homes in San Antonio, Tampa, Florida, England, and Iceland. They ultimately returned home to Gatesville in 1969, where Greta worked in the Coryell County Tax Assessor Collector’s office and for several attorneys. She also served as the Coryell County Clerk prior to her retirement.

She married Carl Benson in 1992, and the two made their home in Salado. During their marriage, they traveled to many countries, including Germany, China, and Italy. They also raised Black Angus cattle on their ranch where Greta enjoyed gardening and hosting family visits. In 2003, Greta married Shorty Boales. They made their home in Gatesville before moving to Belton. Greta and Shorty loved to travel, which took them to Yellowstone, Alaska, and south Texas.

Greta loved her family.  She enjoyed reunions and get-togethers, as she could talk for hours with her family. Reading books was one of her favorite pastimes, as she would often read as many as two books a week. Her favorite dog was Ruby, her Boston Terrier. Greta was a strong, generous, and accepting person, even though she was overly strong-willed and opinionated at times. She worked hard at whatever she was doing and was an amazing mother, sister, grandmother, wife, and daughter. She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Naomi Poston; husbands, George E. Dysinger, Carl Benson, and Shorty Boales; sons, Mike Dysinger and Glen Dysinger; sisters, Lane Shotwell and husband, Bob Ed, Peggy Kirchmeier and husband, Milton; sister-in-law, Kathy Dysinger; and brother-in-law, L. C. Mayberry.

Greta is survived by her daughter, Margaret Campbell and husband, Steve McFarland; stepdaughter, Janice Putska and husband, Jeff; daughter-in-law, Sherry Dysinger; stepson, Carl Benson and wife, Faith; stepdaughter, Ann Birkner and husband, Terrrill; sisters, Mikie Mayberry, Carol Marshall and husband, Kennith, Mary McElroy and husband, Randall; sister-in-law, Carolyn Langford; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Boales and wife, Nettie, and Sam Dysinger; grandchildren, Nate and wife, Hutton, Hannah, Mary and husband, Dustin, Zach and wife, Jessica, Andrew and wife, Stacy, Shaun and wife, Zoe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
