Gloria Jean Mercer Davidson, age 88, passed away on March 6, 2024.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 12, at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. Interment followed at Davidson Cemetery immediately following the service.

Gloria was born to Samuel Rufus Sr. and Ina (Sanders) Mercer on Nov. 8, 1935. She grew up on a dairy farm in the Keeter community of Wise County and graduated from Boyd High School in 1954. After graduating from the University of North Texas in 1957, Gloria started a 13-year career as a first-grade teacher in the Fort Worth Independent School District. She married Robert Wesley Davidson on August 12, 1968, and they enjoyed more than 45 years of marriage together.

After moving their family to Coryell County in 1985, Gloria busied herself with growing all kinds of flowers and plants, reading, and collecting and trying out new recipes. But what gave her more pleasure than anything else was spending time with her only grandchild, Preston, and hearing about his accomplishments and various school activities. Gloria was baptized into Christ in her early teens and was an active member of the Gatesville Church of Christ, forming many close and long-lasting friendships there.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, in 2014; and her brother-in-law, Robert Oswald. She is survived by her son, John David Davidson and wife, Amy, and grandson, Preston Davidson, all of Gatesville; her sister, Vada Oswald, of Wichita Falls; her brother, Samuel Rufus “Junior” Mercer and wife, Catherine, of Keeter; her niece, Cathy Barrett; and her nephew, Robert Oswald.

Memorials may be made to the Gatesville Church of Christ.
