GHS varsity golf teams advance to regionals

Both golf teams at Gatesville High School competed in round one, which was held at Cottonwood in Waco. Round two was held at the Lake Waco Golf Course in China Spring.

Round three was the District 23-4A tournament, which was held in Waco this past week.

The Hornet boys shot 334 to finish with a two-day score of 672 and finished in second place overall, claiming another trip to the regional tournament.

Caden Brister emerged as the tourney runner-up medalist with an 80-78-158, and Kasen Bankhead shot an 81-83-164 and won a one-hole playoff to claim the third medalist spot. Max Healer shot an 85-87-172, Gage Ford shot a 92-86-178, and Garret Sullivant shot a 95-94-189, which rounded out the Hornets’ individual scoring.

For the girls, Lady Hornet Avery Streetman earned a repeat trip to regionals after shooting 98-94-192, to qualify as a medalist as well. She was the third medalist overall.

The boys’ 4A-Region III tournament will be held on Monday, April 15 and on Tuesday, April 16 at the Bearkat Golf Course in Huntsville. It will be the Hornet boys’ 21st regional appearance in the last 23 years.

The 4A-Region III girls’ tournament will be held on Wednesday, April 17 and on Thursday, April 18 at the same location in Huntsville.
