GHS soccer continues to show strength

Gatesville High School boys’ soccer beat Lampasas, 3-0, March 1, with two goals from Angel Almendariz, and a goal from Hector Silva. Jack Armstrong had two assists and Asa Hardcastle provided another.

On Tuesday, the boys secured a third-place finish and a trip to the post season with a 6-1 win over China Spring. Angel Almendariz, Silva, and Oswaldo Leon each provided two goals. Armstrong, Alex Bueno, Leon, and Almendariz each had an assist. The Hornets once again got outstanding defensive play from midfielders Armstrong and Abraham Almendariz, and from defenders Ryan Tesar, Hardcastle, Damian Guerrero, Malichi Olvera, and Hayden Blanchard.

Gatesville High School girls’ soccer tied Lampasas, 0-0, in regulation, but were able to secure a penalty kick shoot-out win, 4-3. Making their kicks were Ally Penrod, Bethany Penrod, Andrea Ortiz, and Cayleigh Coursey. 

On Tuesday, March 5, the girls played a hard-fought game against China Spring, but came up short, 1-3. The girls got a goal from Andrea Ortiz, and strong play from Senior Captain Bethany Penrod in the loss.

Both teams will be in action Friday at Brownwood, and Tuesday at Salado.
