GHS powerlifting athletes advance to state competition

The Gatesville High School boys powerlifting team finished fourth place in their regional meet with two lifters qualifying for the upcoming state competition.

Senior Zach Bryant and L.J. Hall punched tickets to state at the regional meet.

Bryant won gold in the superheavyweight weight class with a three-lift total of 1,770 pounds which includes 705 pounds with squat, 485 on the bench, and 580 pounds with deadlift.

Hall took silver in the 165-pound class with a total of 1,440 pounds, which includes 500 pounds with squat, 425 on the bench, and 515 pounds with deadlift.

Gatesville High School had three other lifters earn top five medals, which include David Sims, third place with a total of 1,235 pounds; Caden Brister, fifth place with a total of 1,005 pounds; and Dutch Nielson, fifth place with a total of 1,195 pounds.

The Texas High School Powerlifting Association (THSPA) state meet will be held on Friday, March 22 in Abilene.
