GHS powerlifters push through regional tournament

The Gatesville High School girls powerlifting team has powered through a tough meet by taking home the gold.

On Friday, March 1, Gatesville High School had 11 lifters compete at the THSWPA girls’ regional meet in Dublin. The lifters included Zoey Arnold, Emma Davidson, Kinsley Eary, Kasey Fitzer, Isabela Mondragon, Bayelyn Roberts, Alyssa Saxon, Marin Segraves, Shaylie Teague, Keyana Webb, and Paisley Wells.

Concluding the regional meet, lifter Emma Davidson won a gold medal, and lifter Shaylie Teague took home a silver medal in their respective weight classes.

Other medalists included Zoey Arnold, fourth place; Kasey Fitzer, fifth place; and Bayelyn Roberts, fifth place.

The girls powerlifting state meet will be held on Friday, March 15, in Frisco.

The Gatesville High School boys powerlifting team will compete at the THSPA boys regional meet on Saturday, March 9, at home in Gatesville.

The lifters will include Sergio Bucio, Caden Brister, Zach Bryant, L.J. Hall, Ray Jones, Dutch Nielson, Brayden Mills, and David Sims. The alternates will be Corey Burns and Aiden Pankow.

The athletes who finish in first place, second place, or reach a predetermined lift amount at the regional meet will advance to the state competition.
