Museum Spotlight

When visitors to the Coryell Museum and Historical Center are visiting all the various displays, they might notice in the church display a photo of an early day baptism in Coryell County that was held in the Leon River. The participants in the photo were from the Hay Valley Baptist Church.

Coryell County Youth awarded 4-H Scholarships

The 2026 Texas 4-H Foundation Scholarships have been awarded, $40,000 of those funds to four Coryell County students. Each year the foundation, which is the largest scholarship program in the nation, presents scholarships to outstanding high school seniors with impeccable 4-H careers.

Whatever happened to

Two Gatesville High School seniors, Chip Sugg and Emily Hall were scheduled to receive the Lamar Awards from Gatesville Masonic Lodge 197. Dale Cox, a 1981 graduate of Gatesville High School, received a Master of Business Administration degree at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls.

Elana Miller graduate from Let’s Grow Learning Center The Kindergarten Class of 2026 at Gatesville Primary School recently walked across the stage at the Gatesville High School auditorium to graduate and move on to first grade.

Coryell Creek

Coryell Creek in the “baptism hole” just steps from the historic church.Outdoor baptisms were major community spectacles. Entire communities would gather on the banks of creeks, bringing families together to witness individuals wading into the water for total immersion baptisms.

Stinger Stash Marketplace making a difference

GISD employee Michelle Martin can be considered the driving force behind The Stinger Stash Marketplace which is housed at the Gatesville Primary School. The food pantry is open year-round to Gatesville Independent School District teachers, staff, students and their parents, and to retired teachers.
