Put down The Gatesville Messenger and head to Pearl

Posted

If you’re reading this on Saturday morning, March 2, you need to quickly finish reading The Gatesville Messenger and head to Pearl. The Pearl Cottage Bookstore is open today from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., and they want to see you. Also, the Pearl Bluegrass event is happening all day today. Trust me, you don’t want to miss these treasured happening. What can possibly be better than browsing the over 6,000 books in the bookstore while visiting with Kay and Corlisa and then listening to some wonderful bluegrass in the Community Center? Nothing that I can think of. Be there…or be square. There’s no place like Pearl!

Blast from the Past: The following piece was published several years ago, and Linda resent it to me last week—it’s still funny and needs to be repeated. Enjoy!

“Pearl Texas, Coryell County. Well, it finally happened. Mr. Dick Decker predicted it would happen and said, ‘I can’t wait to see it in the Gatesville paper!’

Linda Ray was arrested for keeping the Pearl Church of Christ open during the Coronavirus. They were able to have church under the tabernacle, built in 1904, each Sunday. Wouldn’t the early leaders be proud? But a group of deputies arrested Mrs. Ray at the church. She asked if her lawyer, Kay Pruett, could go with her; however, she was told they wouldn’t put both of them in the back seat of the police car together. Mrs. Ray’s husband, Ronald, and their two sons, Chris and Ryan, were contacted by the Sheriff’s Department a short time later with the offer of a large sum of money if they would come get her. An unknown source reported that it took a while for the jail to settle down. However, Mrs. Ray told everyone what polite young men the sheriff and deputies were. And, that she had met some of the nicest people in jail and had invited all of them to church.

Although the authorities seemed a bit shaken, Mrs. Ray, when asked about the experience said, ‘It was a great adventure and not much different than any other day in Pearl.’ (Story compliments of fake news!)”

This week’s Bible verse comes from I Peter 5:7—Give all your worries and cares to God, for He care about you.” NLT
