The Pearl Cottage Bookstore reported having a wonderful day this past first Saturday. The ladies there said that they were so happy that the weather was warmer and drier, which afforded their beloved friends both former and future to venture forth to Pearl for a much-needed dose of the happiest bookstore in existence!

However, several people told Linda and Corlisa that they surely missed the “itsy bitsy teeny tiny turquoise greeny stringy bikini” stories. For those of you who are also missing updates on the cantankerous cossie, please be patient as this terrifying two piece hibernates in winter much like bears or the fat-tailed dwarf lemur. I was told that one gentleman misses bikini stories so much that he offered to buy the framed phantom, which resides above the Christian section of the cottage! For now, the nice man decided to wait and see what happens in the future. Well, for right now, not even this slightly twisted storyteller is for certain sure what direction that abhorrent beach costume will take. I guess we will all have to just stay tuned and hope the groundhog from up north is wrong about six more weeks of winter. Ugggg….

It is now silent auction time again at Pearl Church of Christ. The annual Valentine Auction benefiting Lampasas His Kids Youth Ministry will be Feb. 12 following morning services, which begin at 10:30 a.m.  Items for the silent auction are out in the dining room and the kids’ room beginning. Please be sure and drop by the Pearl Church of Christ to view the many auction items and to place your generous bids. If you want to donate auction items, please call Linda Ray at 254-206-1999 or 254-865-9282. Remember, all of the proceeds go to His kids, which they use to send their group to His Hill Ranch Camp each summer.

Remember when little ol’ ladies carried around something called a “Grandma’s Brag Book?” I don’t have such a book, but I’ve sure got a smart phone full of pictures and stories to tell. I can’t show you any pictures, so please indulge me some “bragging rights” for a minute. My oldest granddaughter scored the most points in her final basketball tournament for the season this past Saturday … three games spread hours apart in Garrison, Texas!! (She was also the cutest…did I say that?) My middle granddaughter celebrated her sixth birthday on the 3rd, and I enjoyed spending time with her on Facetime. For her party, she was going to a Princess Spa party complete with the bedazzling of toes and fingernails. I asked her what exactly was going to happen at the spa, and she replied, “You know, where they give your feet a bath.” I couldn’t have explained it any better myself!

From “The Pleasure and Profit Club” compilation of minutes, which explains where the name came from: “The club met with Mrs. Toral Oney. There being no work to be done, we spent a very pleasant afternoon in talking and walking contests everyone enjoyed. We were then invited into the dining room, where we were served cake and grape Juice. The president called the house to order. Minutes were read and approved. Thirteen members answered roll call and six visitors were present. Mrs. Nollie Robinson and Miss Ona Jones had their names put back on the roll. Another date was set for making flower beds at the schoolhouse. Changing the club’s name then came into discussion. Several names were suggested and voted upon. The name “Pleasure and Profit Club” was selected on Feb. 17, 1933! This was 90 years ago, and what this group of industrious, loving, civic-minded ladies and their successors accomplished are still evident in the community to this day!  If you would like to purchase a copy of this historic book, call Linda Ray at 254-865-9282.

This week’s Bible verse comes from Psalm 25:4-5: Show me Your ways, Lord, teach me Your paths. Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long. (NIV)
