The Pearl Cottage Bookstore ladies reported a great day on Saturday, Aug. 5, despite the heat!

They were able to say hello to many old friends and a big “welcome” to new ones, too! I remember long ago that Clyde Wilson always said to newcomers at Pearl Church of Christ, “Visit once and you’re a friend, but visit twice and you’re family.” That’s the way it is at the Pearl Cottage Bookstore and Retail Shop, too. The ladies also said to tell everyone that they greatly appreciate your patronage! Every penny collected at the bookstore goes to the local charities that the store supports! Be sure and visit next month!! You never know what—or who--you might find!!

The next Pearl Bluegrass and Pearl Cottage Bookstore day will be Sept. 9 (it’s always the second Saturday in September due to a long-standing first Saturday family reunion); the Pearl Church of Christ Atchley Fish Fry and Silent Auction for His Kids will be the 3rd of September with items set up to view by Aug. 21;  the next Pearl Cemetery workday will be Oct. 14 with a reschedule date if necessary due to inclement weather of Oct. 21; and the Pearl Church of Christ 128th Reunion will be Oct. 15.  Mark your calendars, and please know that everyone is cordially invited to attend any and all of these events!

Kay, Linda, and Karon got to enjoy a wonderful visit with Betty Jo Wilson on her 95th birthday on July 31! I wish I could post pictures here because everyone looked absolutely fabulous, and Betty Jo still has skin like alabaster!! Betty Jo had received a visit from the Ballards the day before, too, so she got to enjoy lots of cake, flowers, friends, and family!!  She and Clyde were treasured Pearl residents for many years, and Betty Jo had grown up in Pearl. So many of us have memories, pieces of advice, and lots of love stored in our hearts because of this precious couple. Clyde went to be with the Lord on Jan. 19, 2008. We miss him still as does Betty Jo. If you can, be sure and send a note to Betty Jo c/o The Meadows, 110 Chicktown Road, Gatesville, TX 76528. She will love hearing from you!!

This week’s Bible verse comes from John 1:1-5. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” NIV
