Ogletree Gap Festival to be held Oct. 14

Posted

The Ogletree Gap Heritage Festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival is free to enter, and Ogletree Gap Park is in Coryell County near Copperas Cove

Visitors will be treated to buggy rides around the park along with music, food, pioneer demonstrations, arts and crafts, and storytelling.

The festival, which began in 1984, was presented by the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce until 2008. The Copperas Cove Historical Society brought back the festival in 2022, which included historical demonstrations in and around the old stagecoach stop and post office located in the park.

The stagecoach stop, which is honored with a state historical marker, is noted as one of the oldest buildings in the area around Copperas Cove. The solitary two-room structure was built of stone by Marsden Ogletree in 1878.
