The Ogletree Gap Heritage
Festival was recently held
at the Ogletree Gap Park
located in Coryell County
near Copperas Cove after
Visitors were treated to buggy rides around the park.
an absence of more than a
decade.
The festival, which began
in 1984, was presented by
the Copperas Cove Chamber
of Commerce until 2008.
The Copperas Cove Historical
Society brought back
the festival this year, which
included historical demonstrations
in and around the
old stagecoach stop and
post office located in the
park.
The stagecoach stop,
which is honored with a
state historical marker, is
noted as one of the oldest
buildings in the area around
Copperas Cove.
The solitary two-room
structure was built of stone
by Marsden Ogletree in
1878.
