Lady Hornets softball takes on Connally High School

This past week, on Thursday, April 11, the varsity softball team of Gatesville High School stepped up to the plate against Connally HS in a game that ended 8-7, favoring the Hornets.

The Lady Hornets built a four-run lead in the fifth inning and held off Connally’s charge for an 8-7 victory on Thursday.

Connally was the first to get on the board, scoring one run.

In the top of the third inning, the Lady Hornets jumped back into the lead after Kinlee Gardner homered to center field, Megan Mehaffey singled, Brilee Ford singled, and Emma Raby doubled, each scoring one run.

The starting pitcher, Madison Hester, earned a win for the team after giving up four hits and three runs with one earned over two innings, while striking out three and walking three.

Mehaffey pitched five innings in relief for the team. They gave up three hits and four runs with one earned, while striking out 10 and walking one.

The Lady Hornets accumulated 13 hits during the game. Raby went three-for-three at the plate to lead the team in hits. Mehaffey, Hester, Madisyn Birnel, Raylee Glover, Gardner, Raby, and Ford each drove in one run for the varsity Lady Hornets.

Mehaffey played a special game by reaching over 100 strikeouts at 103 total for the season.

Gatesville High School will host Connally High School at home on Friday, April 19. More details are to come.
