Joyce Tippit, age 89, of Gatesville, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, at Scott’s Funeral Home.
Joyce was born on June 28, 1934 to Carlton and Thelma Martin Hartwick. She grew up in Osage and attended school in Oglesby and Gatesville, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1951. Joyce married Marvin Ray Tippit on June 28, 1951. Joyce was a homemaker when her two girls were young. Joyce and her husband owned and operated Tippit’s Western Wear in Gatesville for 22 years. Joyce, better known as “Mammie,” loved her family and enjoyed attending the many events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You could often find her at rodeos and various sporting events across the state. Joyce was always known for her sense of fashion and style. She enjoyed playing the piano and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gatesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlton and Thelma Martin Hartwick; husband, Ray Tippit; and daughter, Terrie Tippit Lee.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Debbie Maxwell and husband, Daryl; son-in-law, Gary Lee; grandchildren, Misti Morra and husband, Kevin, Lori McLaughlin and husband, Brent, Kristian Brown and husband, Jim, Kyle Maxwell and wife, Paulyn, Chance Lee and wife, Brittny; great- grandchildren, Garret Jones, Quinlan Jones, McKenna Luensmann and husband, Braden, Camden Morra, Kian Dingianni, Kyler Maxwell, Myler Lee, Brayden Lee, and Kylie Maxwell.
