City council discusses various grants and FEMA projects

The Gatesville City Council met on Tuesday, July 14, to discuss updates on projects under FEMA Disaster, applying for a grant and potentially committing matching funds for a separate grant.

GISD welcomes new Elementary principal and assistant principal

During the June 29 school board meeting, assistant principal for the elementary school, Jennifer Doss, was named the head principal, with Kristen Sullins set to the assistant principal position for the 2026-2027 school year.

Gatesville’s sales tax revenue up compared to July 2025

The office of Acting Texas State Comptroller Kelly Hancock has released their monthly sales tax revenue report for the month of July, announcing Texas cities have averaged a 4.75 percent increase in total net payments with $760,387,569.58 dispersed in total.

Local non-profit to hold first ever back to school supply drive

A Central Texas non-profit is currently holding a school supply drive to help children in Gatesville have access to supplies for the upcoming school year.

In the school room display at the Coryell Museum and Historical Center, visitors will see at least fifty photographs of rural schools that were once located in Coryell County. One of the many photographs on display is of the Ireland School as it appeared in 1929.

Whatever happened to

1996 (Thirty years ago) The American Legion Post 42 history book took top honors at the American Legion annual convention and was to advance to national competition. Special services were planned for the 55th anniversary of the West Main Church of Christ.

Mound Cowboy Church is having a summer revival. The guest speaker will be Mr. Cody Cochran of Anson on Sunday morning, July 19, at 9 a.m. at the pavilion. The revival will be held July 19-22, Sunday through Wednesday, at 7 p.m. inside the Cowboy Church.

Coryell Museum seeks volunteers

The purpose of the Coryell Museum is to collect, preserve, and exhibit the cultural history of Coryell County and Central Texas. The museum is always looking for new volunteers.
