Oglesby Tigers thrash Calvert in District 25A opening play

Posted

The Oglesby Varsity Tigers opened up District 25A play with a 64-27 thrashing of the Calvert Trojans, Oct. 27, in Calvert.

The game remained close in the first quarter, but the one-two punch of Kyler Fossett and Edward Aviles Jr., the passing of Hunter Walters, and sure-hands of big receiver Landon Williamson proved to be more than the Trojans could handle. The defense jelled for the Tigers, with multiple defenders helping to shut down the speedy backs and receivers of the Trojans. Top defensive performers for the Tigers were Fossett, Aviles, Tippit, Hendricks and Gomez.

Offensively, Hunter Ewing made several key blocks and had a clutch 22-yard reception to help break open the game and set up the Tigers to score. Kyler Fossett had six rushing touchdowns, Edward Aviles had three rushing touchdowns, and Alex Castillo was five/nine on PATs for 10 points.

The Tigers host the Buckholt Badgers, Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m., for the District 25A Championship.
