Hornets fall to Rockets, 12-2

Posted

Tuesday night (March 15) did not pan out how the Gatesville Hornets would have liked, losing a non-district game to Robinson, 12-2, at Robinson High School.

The Hornets struggled against the Rockets with only Hayden Mooney and Parker Allman crossing home plate in the third inning.

Mooney’s walk in the third inning led to a steal of second base to set him up in scoring position. Allman hit the ball hard into right field for a single and Mooney reached third base. A sacrifice fly by Mata allowed Mooney to score a run. Allman scored his run on a passed ball.

GHS baseball coach Chase Smith remained positive after the defeat. Smith hopes the Hornets can grow from the loss, bettering themselves for district opponents.

“We saw some good pitching, which will help us gain experience in the box for district,” Smith said.

With the loss, the Hornets dropped to 6-7 overall. The Hornets are 1-0 in their District 6-4A standings because of their 10-0 mercy-rule win over the Lampasas Badgers on March 8.

GHS is scheduled to play the Brownwood Lions on Friday, March 18, at Brownwood as district play resumes for the Hornets.
