Posted

Gatesville High School senior Tasha Thoms spent a lot of energy hustling and flying around Friday night in the Hornets playoff warm-up game with the Robinson Rockets.

“It was just like any other game,’’ said the front-line player. “That’s me (bouncing off the floor). This is a fun bunch, we do a lot of things together.’’

The atmosphere was intense for the Hornets in posting a 25-19, 21-25, 25-18, 25-15 victory over the rival Robinson Rockets.

Sophomore Barrett Boyd had a big night serving the ball and Kaleigh Haywood and Khloe Mathews helped power the attack.

Lola Barron and Charlee Barron also played well as the Hornets battled the Rockets. Rachel Garrett was also active at the net.

The Hornets improved to 29-9 overall.

The squad opens the Class 4A playoffs Tuesday, Nov. 2 against the Graham Steers, at Joshua High School.

With a win, the Hornets would advance to the area round to play Benbrook or Krum.

“Graham is going to be a strong team,’’ Gatesviile coach Janey Weber said. “We know we have to walk in and set the tone early. The girls have been working non-stop preparing for this time. ‘’
