Besting the best of the best, with 31 teams competing from all over the United States, the Coryell County 4-H Senior Livestock Judging Team, comprised of Coston Allison, Kinsey Gardner, and Jenna Coward captured first place at the Aksarben National contest in Grand Island, Nebraska, on Sunday, Sept. 26.
The team, coached by 4-H volunteer Emily Lochner, first competed on Friday, Sept. 24 at a warmup contest at the Canton/Galva 4-H/FFA Invitational in McPherson, Kansas, where they won top honors as well.
This team has been rock solid for the past two years, winning state-wide contests and placing at last year’s American Royal.
The team was at top in reasons and talkers, winning the award. It also placed at the top in the Cattle and Swine. Placing individually for the county were Costin Allison (4th individual overall) and Kinsey Gardner (fifth overall).
Gardner, was awarded high point individual in reasons, making this her fourth continuous win in the reasons room. Miranda Allison, Emily Lochner, and Coryell County Extension Agent Becky Coward accompanied the youth on the trip.
