The Gatesville High School Cheer team recently competed in the 2024 UIL 4A Spirit State Championship and finished 27th in the State of Texas.

The competition was held from Thursday, Jan. 4 to Saturday, Jan. 6 at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

Assistant Cheer Coach Amber Colson said, “I am so proud of how hard this group has worked over the last several months, they put in countless hours to prepare and go out and represent Gatesville ISD.”

At the UIL Spirit State Championships, schools competed in three categories including crowd leading, fight song, and band dance.

The Gatesville High School Cheer team had zero deductions for their performances.

“They went out on the mat and looked amazing,” Colson said. “I know next year we are going to come back even stronger, and I am so excited for the future of Gatesville High School Cheer.”

In addition to parents attending the competition, the Gatesville Junior High Cheer team was also present to support the high school cheerleaders.

Spirit is an extracurricular activity that focuses on the traditional game day role cheerleaders have on the sidelines and in schools supporting athletic teams.
