Pearl community saddened by loss of beloved community member

Posted

We are saddened at the passing of Betty Jo Wilson on April 24, but we know where she is and rejoice with our Savior that she is now home.

I know that Betty Jo would be so thankful to her niece and nephew, Ronnie and Laura Ballard, for all that they did to ensure that a sweet service was held at the Pearl Cemetery to celebrate her wonderful life. She would also be thankful for Edward and Judi Schaub for the sweet service that he conducted in her honor. Betty Jo was born in Pearl, graduated from Pearl High School, and then returned to Pearl after leaving for a few years with her husband, Clyde Wilson. Clyde and Betty Jo were pillars of the Pearl Church of Christ and of the community of Pearl itself. One of my favorite memories of Betty Jo is her silky peanut butter pie. Betty Jo was a woman of many, many talents, and one of her most precious talents was that of being a mother figure to all of us “younger” ladies in Pearl. I know that I’ll have her wise sayings in my heart for the rest of my life, and I will try and pass them on to my own granddaughters and nieces. Until we meet again, Betty Jo.

After you finish reading this, hop on over to Pearl Community Center and Pearl Cottage Bookstore because today is the day. The monthly bluegrass event and bookstore day are taking place right now. Everyone is welcome! The stage show begins at 1 p.m., and this time there will be a celebration of the years that Ronald Medart spent overseeing the first Saturday events in Pearl and as a member of the Pearl Community Center Board. Mr. Medart has retired, and May 6 will be the last time he mans the sound board. Please join everyone in the auditorium to help the Pearl Community Center Board members honor him for his service.

May 5 is Scholarship Sunday at Pearl Church of Christ. Please join this special service as they honor this year’s seniors. Everyone is always welcome.

The Pearl Church of Christ will hold its annual VBS May 27 through May 31, from 9 a.m.-12 p. m. each day. The theme this year is “Jesus loves You!” Be sure and mark your calendars, and please tell all of your friends and family. The Pearl Church of Christ VBS is epic, and you don’t want to miss it!

The Pearl Baptist Church will host the Pearl Mainstreet Festival on Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be food, a bounce house, a cake walk, and a silent auction to benefit the Backpack Buddies at Evant School. Everyone is welcome to attend. The event takes place rain or shine.

This week’s Bible verse comes from Job 19:25—I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end He will stand on the earth. NIV
