This past week on Thursday, April 25, Team Gatesville Special Olympics received a donation from members of Branch 163 of Hochheim Prairie Farm Mutual Insurance.
This donation will aid the program with funding in the five sports the team competes in, which includes track and field, swimming, bocce, and bowling.
“Hochheim’s donation, as well as many other local businesses who support Team Gatesville, will help our delegation participate in the upcoming track and field events at the Special Olympics Texas Summer Games,” Heidi Clough, program director, said.
Team Gatesville receives no outside funding and relies completely on the generosity of our community members. Their kindness is vital to providing sport and social activities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
“Our community’s support will give our athletes the opportunity to compete throughout the year, develop important skills and self-confidence, and be part of a team,” Clough said. “Not only that, but their support will also help promote inclusion and understanding in our community.”
The donation allows Team Gatesville to provide activities throughout five sports, participate in numerous competitions, and offers social activities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities within the community.
“We offer our heartfelt gratitude to Hochheim and our community for continuing to support these much-needed services,” Clough said.
Team Gatesville also invites the community to its bake sale on Saturday, May 11. The bake sale will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be held at the Gatesville Chamber of Commerce.
The funds from the bake sale will help cover athlete housing, nutrition fees, and entry fees for the upcoming track and field event at the Special Olympics Texas Summer Games in San Antonio from May 17 to 19.
“Your support will give our athletes the opportunity to compete, develop important skills and self-confidence, and be part of a team,” Clough said.
