Oglesby baseball to compete in bi-district playoffs

The Oglesby Tiger baseball team took home the title of District Champions on Tuesday, April 23. The Tigers competed against the Meridian Yellow Jackets and won 6-5.

The team played a rigorous game and came out on top with five runs and five hits.

“I think the boys have done a tremendous job this season,” coach Trent Padron said. “Last year was our first year to field a team, and we ended up finishing third place in our district.”

This year, the Tigers are determined to outdo what they accomplished this past year.

Padron expressed that even with Spring being a busy time of the year that the team has followed through and has been doing great.

“We have multiple kids that are multi-sport athletes during this time, and they find a way to have success in all their sports,” Padron said. “It's a challenge for them, most of the time we would have several baseball boys gone for Golf on Mondays, then Tuesday we would play a game, roll into Wednesday or Thursday, and have a track meet, then finally end the week with another baseball game on Friday.”

Padron explained that as a coaching staff there really isn't much more that they can ask of the team to do.

“They show up each week and compete in whatever sport it is they are doing that day,” Padron said. “I just think this speaks volumes on what our kids are able to accomplish with everything they have on their plates during this time and come out of it being successful.”

The Bi-District Round was held on Wednesday, May 1 at 6 p.m., where they played against the Gordon Longhorns at Stephenville High School.
