Valentine's Day weddings in Coryell County

Posted

More people seem to get married on February 14th, St. Valentine’s Day, than on any other ordinary day in February.

There are certain advantages to getting married on Valentine’s Day – it makes a wedding you will never forget and makes the holiday more memorable, and there’s no chance you will forget the date of your anniversary.

Speaking with Coryell County Clerk, Jennifer Newton, she said “On average, our office issues about 44 marriage licenses from the end of January to mid-February.”

After being issued a marriage license, Newton said that there is a 72-hour waiting period before a marriage license can be used. “That time begins the minute the license is issued,” she said. “The two exceptions to that rule are: if either party is active-duty military or they have successfully completed the TWOgether in Texas program and present their certificate at the time of issuance of the license, then the 72 hours is waived.”

When asked if there are any other holidays or months that can compare to the February spike in marriage license applications, Newton said, “June and October are the busiest months for issuing marriage licenses in our office. February is the third busiest time. Valentine’s Day is a great time to tie the knot, and our clerks are happy to assist couples in obtaining their license at either of our locations in Coryell County.

The main office is located on the first-floor courthouse in Gatesville located at 620 E. Main Street, and the second location is at the Justice of the Peace office at 210 S. 1st Street in Copperas Cove.”

“Valentine’s Day isn’t just a day in the Coryell County Clerk’s office, we consider it a season. It is always a busy time for us,” Newton said.
