Threatening email sent to Central Texas schools not credible, police say

Posted

Several Central Texas schools reported receiving a threatening email on Friday morning, but the Gatesville Police Department and Gatesville ISD say the threat is not credible.

Gatesville Police Department wrote on their Facebook page that they are working closely with GISD police to patrol the area. They said the email originated from a known “bot” address and there is no credible evidence to suggest there is a threat to GISD campuses.

GISD Superintendent Barrett Pollard said the school did not receive the email, but they were alerted by other school districts in the area who did receive the threat.

The school sent an alert to parents on Friday morning that stated the following:

“The FBI has been working with the Texas Education Agency and have determined there is no credible evidence to suggest that a bomb has been planted anywhere on any of the campuses that received the threat, or on any other campus in our region. We want to make you aware of this situation because news of the threat is spreading and causing alarm. We are monitoring our campuses very carefully and have found nothing out of the ordinary.”

Pollard said no other information is known at this time.

Oglesby ISD Superintendent Shane Webb said their school did not receive the email. According to a report by KCENTV, other nearby school districts, including Jonesboro ISD and Evant ISD, have not received the threat.
