On Dec. 4, 2022, Susan Cheryl Trout-Wright passed away peacefully into God’s graces surrounded by loved ones after battling lung cancer. A warrior throughout life, she was 75 years old. Sue was the first of nine children born to the late Nelson Edward and Louise Ellen (Peters) Trout on Feb. 25, 1947, in Thurmont, MD.
Sue had an adventurous childhood helping take care of her numerous brothers. She graduated from Thurmont High School and received her Bachelor of Arts from Frostburg State College in Frostburg, Maryland, followed by receiving a master’s degree from Loyola College in Baltimore. Sue touched many lives as a special education teacher in the states of Iowa, Maryland, Texas, and Washington for 41 years.
She had an adventurous spirit and loved taking road trips. On her way back to Maryland from California, she stopped off in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she bartended part-time and met her future husband, Dennis David Wright. Dennis and Susan married June 14, 1975. The following year, her son, Adrian John Wright was born followed by her daughter, Kimberly Ann Wright King two years later. Shortly after her daughter was born, the family moved back to Maryland.
She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, anything to do with crabs, gardening – she had an amazing green thumb, and of course what most people will remember, reading her romance novels and smoking her “potty” cigarettes. She had an amazing sense of humor and could make a wisecrack about most anything and she will be dearly missed.
Sue is survived by her son, Adrian Wright; daughter, Kimberly (Kevin) King; brothers, Jerry (Kay) Trout, Robert (Anita) Trout, Tom (Sheila) Trout, John Trout, Donny (Buenafe) Trout, Steven (Randia Ramzi) Trout, Andrew (Mary Jo) Trout; and her only sister, Becky (Kent) Faughander; significant other, Brandon Barszcz; and her fur baby, Sasha. She has 21 nieces and nephews that will also miss her antics dearly.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 30 years, Dennis Wright; mother and father in-law, David and Corrine Wright; sister in-law, Kathy Heiken; one niece, Kayla Trout; and all her loving pets.
The family will have a memorial service at a later date in Maryland. In memory of Sue, we ask that donations be made to the ASPCA or your local animal shelter.
