The Gatesville Messenger is proud to announce the hiring of Gatesville native Kaitlyn Smith as the new Advertising Sales Representative.

Smith was born and raised in Gatesville and has resided here all her life. She is the daughter of Stacy Mercer and Trey Smith.

She is an alumnus of Gatesville High School and graduated in 2019. She is currently working toward obtaining her associate degree at McLennan Community College (MCC), where she will graduate in May of 2024.

Smith began working at the early age of 13 and has been determined to work hard ever since.

For two years, Smith worked doing insurance sales, which she believes will benefit her with her new position.

“It is very hard and brutal; you have to really know what you are doing,” she said.

She started her job at The Gatesville Messenger in early February and expressed that she wishes to be successful at this job.

One of her hopes is to expand her presence in the community to broaden locals’ knowledge about the newspaper.

“The newspaper keeps us involved in what’s going on locally, especially our elderly who cannot get out of the house or do not have internet,” she said.

As she had already started making her way into the community, she noticed a few familiar faces along the way.

“I am finding out that more people are my family with the more people I meet in Gatesville,” she said. “I didn’t realize how many people are related to me until I started working for the community.”

She loves the fact that our town has a more personal touch where everybody knows everybody.

As she continues her walk with God, Smith feels that this quote pertains to her life in many ways.

“A life of purpose can only be fulfilled when we put God first and make Him the center of our lives.”

The Gatesville Messenger is located at 116 S. 6th Street.
