Pearl Church of Christ VBS carries on tradition

Posted

The Pearl Church of Christ will hold its annual VBS May 27 through May 31, from 9 a.m. - noon each day. This event has taken place since 1991, and it continues to grow and to teach the love of Jesus each and every year. The theme this year is “Jesus Loves You!” Be sure and mark your calendars, and please tell all your friends and family. Everyone is invited. The Pearl Church of Christ VBS is epic, and you don’t want to miss it.

I just talked to Linda Ray, my partner in crime (our other partners are Kay and Corlisa, so you can imagine how much crime is actually committed)—we don’t bother anybody or get in anybody’s business, (well, that’s not true), and she reports that attendance at Pearl Church of Christ on May 19 was 38. They were able to give out one more scholarship. Scholarship Sunday continues for one more day next week. May’s weather has been quite unusual, shall we say, which has caused many extensions to “Scholarship Sunday.”

These are exciting times for the Pearl Bluegrass at the Pearl Community Center. The new officers are working hard to ensure a fun day in Pearl during each Bluegrass event. The next Bluegrass Day will be June 1. You can contact Garrett Dickey, President of the Pearl Community Center Board, at 254-595-1095 to schedule stage time. Just leave a message, and he will get back to you. Don’t forget that the Bluegrass Kitchen is open from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., and the prices are very reasonable for the delicious, homemade food. Please tell your contacts at nursing homes that van loads of residents are welcome at the Pearl Bluegrass event. Admission is free, and the kitchen serves wonderful food at reasonable prices. They would love to come to the stage show, which starts at 1 p.m. in the air-conditioned auditorium.  Everyone is always welcome!

The Community Center is truly the hub of Pearl. It serves as a place for funeral lunches, reunions, and other community events. To rent the building or rent an RV space, contact Connie Long at 254-223-0621.

The Pearl Cottage Bookstore will be open from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on June 1. You will enjoy browsing the well over 6,000 books as well as various sundry other items. Purchases are made by donation, and all proceeds go toward the bookstore’s local charities. Future dates for Bookstore and Pearl Bluegrass days are June 1, July 6, Aug. 3, Sept. 14 (second Saturday due to longstanding booking for a reunion), Oct. 5, Nov. 2, and Dec. 7. Mark your calendars. Kay and Corlisa will love seeing you, so stop by, visit, and enjoy a shopping adventure.

There will be a Pearl Cemetery Meeting on June 24 at 7 p.m. at the Pearl Community Center. All are invited to attend. The Pearl Community Center Board quarterly meeting will be held July 22, with the fourth quarterly meeting being held on Oct. 28, also at the Pearl Community Center. Both meetings of the Pearl Community Center Board will be at 6:30 p.m. All are invited to attend as well.

This week’s Bible verses come from I Corinthians 16: 14—Let all you do be done in love, Galations 5:22—But the fruit of the Spirit is love, and Mark 12:31—You shall love your neighbor as yourself. NIV
