Mark your calendars for the upcoming Pearl Bluegrass days

Posted

Future dates for Bookstore and Pearl Bluegrass days are July 6, Aug. 3, Sept. 14 (second Saturday due to a longstanding booking for a reunion), Oct. 5, Nov. 2, and Dec. 7. Mark your calendars. Kay and Corlisa will love seeing you, so stop by, visit, and enjoy a shopping adventure. Also, the Pearl Bluegrass event is a great opportunity for nursing homes, retirement homes, and assisted living residents to get out and enjoy a day of music and fun for free. There is no admission to sit in the auditorium to listen to the various bands that come to play on the stage. The stage show begins at 1 p.m. and usually goes on until about 5 p.m. Besides listening to the bands, visiting, and just being out in the country in Pearl is refreshing and delightful. Truly, there’s no place like Pearl. Please let your activity directors, in the various area senior settings, know all about Pearl. They’ll love you for it!

There will be a Pearl Cemetery Meeting at 7 p.m. on June 24, in the Pearl Community Center. All are invited to attend. The Pearl Community Center Board quarterly meeting will be held July 22, with the fourth quarterly meeting being held on Oct. 28, also at the Pearl Community Center. Both meetings of the Pearl Community Center Board will be at 6:30 p.m. All are invited to attend as well.

The Pearl Church of Christ will hold its annual Revival on July 6 and 7, with an ice cream supper following the service on July 7. The church service will begin at 7 p.m., with the ice cream fellowship immediately following. The Sunday morning church service begins at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend and to bring friends, family, and people you just met with you.

Okay, remember last week when I told you about the faux pas that Linda Ray “accidentally” committed when she sent home thousands of whistles with the millions of VBS kiddos on the last day of that event? Well, I’m in trouble…again. Evidently, I did not explain fully Mrs. Ray’s side of the story. She claims (and promises that this is not fake news) that Mr. R. McDonald (I don’t think I’m supposed to mention his entire name any longer for some reason—but we all know who he is anyway) asked Mr. R. Ray (yes, they both have the same first name, hint, hint) what self-respecting adult would buy whistles for a trillion VBS kids. That seems like a legit question to most “normal” people. But here’s the deal. Mrs. Ray wants everyone to know that she never claimed to be “normal” or “adult.” This, too, is not fake news. Those are actually very endearing qualities had by our very dear Aunt Linda, and we are proud of it. So, please note for the future, Mr. M, that “adulting” and “normal” are neither apt nor appreciated describing her, (her words—not mine). Also please remember, I am only reporting what I’m told and would greatly appreciate my usual deliveries from Mr. M…as usual… (or unusual, as this is Pearl, and there’s no place like Pearl)!! (And yes, all those exclamation marks and parentheses are needed to fully expound upon the urgency of this message-wink, wink)! No fake news here!

This week’s Bible verse comes from John 16:33—I have said this to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. RSV
