Paula Wheat Gillen October 3, 1952 – January 2, 2023

Paula Wheat Gillen was born on October 3, 1952, to G.R. and Patsy Wheat. She was a sister to Nancy Wright, Gary Wheat, and La Claire Diamond. She grew up in Gatesville where she graduated and went on to attend Sam Houston State University as well as Tarleton State University. Paula dedicated most of her life to being a mother to her three daughters, Shelby Briggs, Stacy Cook, and Steely Bray.

Aside from being a mother, she was also a loving wife to her husband, Paul Gillen. Paula was known as “Mimi” to her many grandkids. Paula loved being a grandmother and spent most her days with the kids around, always having a full house. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and painting. Paula also found passion in antiques, owning an antique mall in downtown Corsicana for 14 years.

Paula was kind, generous, loving, and selfless. She cared for many and enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family. Paula practiced a strong faith throughout her life and found peace through God in her final days.

She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Paul Gillen; daughters and sons-in-law, Chad and Shelby Briggs, Marvin and Stacy Cook, Robert and Steely Bray; stepsons and daughters-in-law; John Paul and Angela Gillen, Heath and Tiffany Gillen, and Clay Gillen; brother and sister-in-law Gary and Teresa Wheat; sisters and brothers-in-law Doyce and Nancy Wright, and Steve and La Claire Diamond; grandchildren, Tatum, Reece, and Gentry Briggs; Belton and Barron Armstrong; Brint, Devan, Corben Bray; Elli Bray; Morgan Martin, Miller and Judson Cook; Bryson, Tyler, Jadyn, Hannah, Owen, Gunner, and Phoenix Gillen; great-grandchildren, Brian, Samuel, and Caleb Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service was held on Saturday, January 7th at Rose Hill Cemetery.
