Oglesby, Jonesboro win big in Sept. 30 football competition

The Oglesby Tigers and Jonesboro Eagles football teams both rolled to big wins on Sept. 30, while the Evant Elks suffered a loss.

Oglesby upended the Gustine Tigers, 64-14.

Kyler Fossett led Oglesby’s potent rushing attack with 196 yards and five touchdowns. Teammate Johnny Gomez ran for 35 yards, followed by Jakson Tippit with 15 and Brodie Fisher and Jordan Smith, each with five.

Hunter Walter competed three of four passes for 69 yards and a touchdown for OHS, with Jakson Tippit hauling in the touchdown reception for 33 yards. Brodie Fisher caught one pass for 25 yards.

Jack Hendricks had 12 tackles for Oglesby along with a fumble recovery, followed by Johnny Gomez with eight tackles, Kyler Fossett with seven, Jakson Tippit with five, Joel Gonzales with four tackles and a fumble recovery, and Brodie Fisher and Alex Castillo, each with three tackles.

Oglesby improved to 6-0 with the win, and will take on the 3-3 Bronte Longhorns on Oct. 7.

Jonesboro hammered the Hill Country Christian School of Austin on Sept. 30 by a score of 81-35. The Eagles led 62-22 at halftime.

Although game stats were not available for Jonesboro, Caleb Cristel leads the team with an average of 96.5 yards rushing per game, followed by Layden Nichols with 56.3 yards per game and Jacob Cisneros with 30.5.

Demarcus Acoff is averaging 42.5 yards receiving per game, followed by Layden Nichols with 14 and Austin Massingill with 8.5.

Garrett Young and Jacob Cisneros are each averaging 7.8 tackles per game for the Eagles followed by Jaden Domel with seven.

Jonesboro will host the 2-4 Lometa Hornets on Oct. 7.

Evant fell to the Blanket Tigers on Sept. 30, 68-22.

The Elks will face the unbeaten May Tigers on Oct. 7.
