Lady Hornets fall to La Vega and Robinson

Posted

Despite a pair of losses to No. 2 ranked La Vega and Robinson, the Gatesville Lady Hornets still have a path to the post season.

La Vega, Connally, and Salado have firm holds on the top three spots in District 23-4A, while Gatesville, Robinson, and China Spring will likely battle for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Through district games Gatesville and Robinson are both 1-5 while China Spring is 2-4. Gatesville and China Spring faced off on Friday night, and a Lady Hornets win would put them into a tie with the Lady Cougars for fourth place in the district.

China Spring and Robinson face off on Feb. 2, and a Lady Cougar win would likely eliminate Robinson from playoff contention.

In their 47-37 loss against Robinson, Gatesville battled back from an early hole and took a lead in the fourth quarter.

Down 31-24 in the third quarter, Gatesville scored 11 straight points to take a fourth-quarter lead. They closed the quarter on a 6-0 run thanks to back-to-back three-pointers from Taylor Coward that then tied the game at 31-31 on a free throw from Emma Pollard early in the fourth quarter.

Pollard took a feed from Taylor Sanderson and converted a three-point play for a 34-31. Pollard hit again for a 36-31 lead before Robinson closed the game on a run for the 47-37 win.

Gatesville traveled to China Spring on Jan. 26 and will host No. 19 Connally on Jan. 30. They will close the regular season at La Vega on Feb. 6.
