GHS students attend Beautiful Tomorrow Assembly

Gatesville High School’s senior class GEAR UP sponsor/site facilitator Sarah Coker recently brought a program to the campus called the Beautiful Tomorrow Assembly.

Coker has been alongside the class of 2024 since their eighth-grade year, guiding them in the right direction for life after high school.

“In 2020 when this year's seniors were freshman and during the COVID restrictions, I had the Beautiful Tomorrow Assembly virtually,” Coker said. “Since then, I have talked to other facilitators at GEAR UP schools that have had the assembly in person and heard all about how much the assembly impacted the students with a positive and encouraging message that they need to hear.”

The message of the assembly includes college and career readiness, peer to peer encouragement, anti-bullying, and character development as well as to keep moving forward toward success.

“The students responded enthusiastically to his positive message, and many stayed after and stood in line to meet him,” Coker said. “There was singing, dancing, crowd participation, and even though 681 students were in attendance from grades 9-12, he had no problem with engagement.”

The goal of the assembly is to challenge the minds of the youth in attendance and to spark a desire in them to pursue their future and its endless potential. The assembly fuses the genre of hip hop with the structure of a question-and-answer discussion panel, both under the umbrella of the message of encouragement and empowerment.

The assembly was established by motivational speaker Jason Lewis. He has travelled all around the country speaking to youth and performing at venues aimed at promoting peace.
