Gatesville Choir students receive All-State awards

Posted

The Gatesville High School Choir program has three students who received All-State awards, which include Paisley Wells, third chair tenor; Anna Phillips, third chair alto; and Memphis Wells, first alternate bass (fifth chair).

The choir had three other students qualify to compete at the area round as well.

For the past year, students have been preparing to endure three intense rounds of auditions. During the auditions, they had to learn six extremely difficult songs in multiple languages, as well as having to sightread individually during the second and third rounds.

At the beginning of the process there were 16,000 students, and only 600 state-wide make one of the four All-State Choirs.

In years past, there have been five Gatesville Choir All-Staters in 24 years, with this year being the first time to have more than one All-State choir student in the same year.

The students who received All-State will have the chance to participate in the TMEA SCC All-State Choir Convention, which will be held in San Antonio from Wednesday, Feb. 7 to Saturday, Feb. 10.

There will be over 30,000 people from all over Texas and around the world for the Music Educators Convention.
