Elsie Mae Bobbie Lengefeld Mallett, age 88, of Gatesville, formerly of upstate New York passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 10 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Gatesville with The Rev. Dr. D.D. “Buddy” Wheat, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Hemmeline Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., prior to the service.

Elsie was born on Sept. 14, 1933, in Gatesville, to Albert Lengefeld and Rosa Schoenewolf Lengefeld. She grew up in the King community, attended school in the Plainview community and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1950. She continued her education at Tarleton State College and San Marcos College, both in Texas, State University of New York College at Cortland, where she completed a bachelor’s degree in education in 1963, and then Elmira College in New York, where she completed her master's degree in education in 1972.

Elsie married Cyril G. Mallett on August 28, 1953, at Bethel Heights Church in Gatesville. They were married 48 years until his passing in 2003. They lived in California and Illinois, settling in upstate New York, where they raised their children. She was employed by the Odessa School District, Odessa, New York and the Spencer Van Etten School District in Spencer, New York, retiring in 1988. She moved back to Texas to be near her family in 2011. Elsie enjoyed reading the Bible, genealogy research, visiting with family and friends, and playing 42 when she came to Texas to visit.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cyril G. Mallett; parents, Albert Paul and Rosa Leona Schoenewolf Lengefeld; infant daughter, Virginia Mallett; son, Edwin Mallett; sisters, Rose Marie Lengefeld Fryer and Erma Lee Lengefeld Hibler; brother, Albert Paul Lengefeld, Jr.; and brothers-in-law, Johnny Fryer, Walter Babb, and Lloyd King, Jr.

Elsie is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Mallett Stephens and husband, Jerry, and Sylvia Mallett Greene; son, Malcolm Mallett and wife, Andrea; daughter-in-law, Carolyn King Mallett; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. A. Dirk and Dr. T. Kaldis and their staff, to Elsie’s other family, Brookdale Lake Brazos Assisted Living staff, Compassus Hospice staff of Waco for their loving care. Also thank you to special friends, Chris Lesinski and Chandar Fuller, for their love and support.
