Construction around the Coryell County Sheriff's Office and the new county jail has closed off parts of Leon Street.

The parking area in front of the sheriff’s office will be closed for construction for the next two weeks, according to a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said a new parking lot is being developed that will be placed in front of the department and the new jail. The sheriff’s office asks visitors to park around Courthouse Square until construction is complete.

There is also additional construction related to the jail expansion that has closed a portion of Leon Street in front of the sheriff’s office. Coryell County Commissioner Ryan Basham said construction workers are excavating two new manholes to lay a sewer line that will connect to the new jail.

Roadwork related to the sewer line excavations should be complete by the middle of next week, Basham adds.
