Charles Shepherd July 12, 1941 – March 10, 2024

Charles Shepherd, age 82, of Gatesville, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at his home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Scott’s Funeral Home with Dr. Eric Moffett officiating. Interment was held at Gatesville City Cemetery. 

Charles Ivy Shepherd was born on July 12, 1941, in Gatesville to the late C.C. “Snooks” and Tribble Campbell Shepherd. He grew up and attended school in Gatesville, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1959. He attended college at Sam Houston State for a short time before moving back to Gatesville. Once back, he became a partner in a local construction company. In 1965, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam, earning two Purple Hearts and various other medals and accommodations. In 1969, Charles went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad and spent the next 37 years there before his retirement. His hobbies included playing pool, water skiing, camping, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, collecting guns, and working in the yard. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Charles always took great pleasure in helping others.  

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda; sons, James “Jimmy” Shepherd and Brenda, David Shepherd and wife, Darla, and Tony Shepherd and wife, Kelly; daughter, Terri Shepherd Castro and husband, Frank; step-daughters, Nikisha Tarrant and significant other, Becca Huerta, Ashley Tarrant and significant other, Leon Boyd, and Taryn McWhorter and husband, Mike; brother, Dan Shepherd and wife, Cheri; and grandchildren, Stephanie, Michael, David, Sarah, Brittany, J.D., Blake, Cortney, Breanne, Logan, Kennedy, Kreece, Ayden, Brayden, Braxton, Suri, Gracie, Mason, and Birdie.
